For professional use, classic Sony quality. There's really nothing else like it on the market. The JVC equivalent costs almost as much and JVC always comes across as more of a "consumer" item. [...]

My company has been using 6 of these decks for a year now. We currently shoot our footage using the Z1U in HDV and depending on what our final video will be we use the the decks to down-convert the HDV footage into standard DV both wide and full scre (Read full review at B&H Photo Video)

This is an incredible machine but for some reason the company decided to deny the consumer one function which if you ask me is a crucial function during this era of transition into the world of HD. The deck won't downconvert HDV footage through... (Read full review at B&H Photo Video)

The Sony HVR-M25 incorporates a compact and simple design, for better desktop recording. The built-in 2.7" LCD display lets you preview easily. It features 1080i, DVCAM and DV SP recording and playback capability for easy migration. It also features playback of HDV 720p pre-recorded tapes and mini-size DV cassettes. Works with standard-sized cassettes that allow up to 276 minutes of HDV recording. The HVR-M25 provides down-conversion functions from HD to SD and is switchable between 60 and 50 Hz (NTSC/PAL) for full flexibility depending on production needs. Edge crop adjustment - check the crop position on the LCD monitor before downcoverting Marker Burn - Operator edits pictures for 16 - 9 and 4 - 3 aspect ratio Auto Repeat and Custom Repeat functions allow operators to set a repeat number of times, repeat interval and start time of repeat Time code settings - select between Rec Run & Free Run; frame mode can be switched between DF(drop frame), NDF(non-drop frame), and Auto Status Check - Audio level meter, video out, iLink Assignable buttons - Frequently-used functions can be assigned to the A1, A2 and A3 buttons |
